FIRST RESPONDER TRAINING

The Emergency First Responder (EFR) course prepares participants to provide immediate, effective care during medical, traumatic, and mass casualty emergencies until the arrival of Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Based on internationally recognized emergency care principles and current resuscitation guidelines, the course develops the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence needed to recognize life-threatening conditions, perform patient assessments, prioritize treatment, and deliver lifesaving interventions.

Through classroom instruction, hands-on practical exercises, and realistic scenario-based training, participants learn to assess emergency scenes, ensure responder and bystander safety, activate the emergency response system, and manage medical and trauma emergencies using a systematic approach. The course emphasizes rapid decision-making, teamwork, effective communication, and patient stabilization.

The course also includes the management of Mass Casualty Incidents (MCIs), focusing on scene assessment, hazard recognition, rapid casualty triage using recognized triage systems, patient prioritization, and coordination with responding agencies to support organized emergency response until advanced medical personnel assume command.

Learning Objectives

  1. Demonstrate the roles and responsibilities of an Emergency First Responder.
  2. Ensure scene safety and perform an effective scene size-up.
  3. Conduct primary and secondary patient assessments to identify life-threatening conditions.
  4. Activate and communicate effectively with Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
  5. Perform high-quality Adult, Child, and Infant CPR and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
  6. Maintain an open airway and manage breathing emergencies.
  7. Control life-threatening bleeding and manage shock using appropriate first aid techniques.
  8. Assess and provide initial care for medical and traumatic emergencies.
  9. Stabilize patients and monitor their condition until advanced medical personnel assume care.
  10. Perform rapid triage during Mass Casualty Incidents (MCIs) using recognized triage principles.
  11. Prioritize patient care and assist in the organized management of multiple casualties.
  12. Demonstrate effective teamwork, communication, and documentation during emergency response operations.
  13. Apply emergency response skills safely, confidently, and in accordance with current evidence-based guidelines.
